In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Tribhuvan University Institute of Medicine, Patan Academy of Health Sciences, St. John’s National Academy of Health Sciences,  and Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Nutrition conducted the Second National Workshop titled “Nutrition Research Designs and Methods”, in Kathmandu, Nepal from April 21-27, 2019. The one-week intensive workshop was part of ongoing support from the Innovation Lab to build institutional and human capacity in the realms of nutrition, health, food security and agriculture.

Twenty participants from the Nepali government, healthcare, and academic sectors were chosen for the workshop.  Working in pairs, and with assistance from faculty mentors, they crafted Letters of Intent for proposals that answered a gap in current scientific nutrition knowledge in Nepal, defining specific aims and outcomes of interest, determining appropriate study designs, research methodology and assessment methods.  Judging by faculty and workshop participant outputs and feedback, the workshop was a great success.
